Academics Director Mary Hastings with Jillian Barry, Lauren Baldino, Michael Lanotte, Matthew Franzoso and Nathanial Auzenbergs
On Sunday, January 15th, Shrewsbury American Youth Football & Cheer (SAYFCO) held it's annual banquet at Shrewsbury High School to mark the end of the 2011 Season. Over 550 people attended the festivities.
During the event, Mary Hastings, SAYFCO's Director of Academics, presented Scholar Athlete awards to 10 participants currently in grades 6 and above who achieved a grade point average of 95% or above during the 2010-11 school year. The 2011 Scholar Athletes included Nathaniel Auzenbergs, Lauren Baldino, Jillian Barry, Matthew Franzoso, Michael Lanotte, Cory Sagerstrom, Michael Soldo, Michael Stearns, Ryan Trocki, and Brahim Yatim. Since the organization was established in 2009, SAYFCO has presented 14 scholastic awards to it's participants.
American Youth Football and Cheer has always stressed the importance of education and scholastic achievement to it's members. All participants must have achieved a passing grade average for the school year ending prior to the beginning of the season. To verify academic fitness of all it's participants, SAYFCO collects copies of year-end report cards. The Director of Academics calculates each student's average in accordance with guidelines provided by AYF/C.
